Again, there were so many great images this year; so much that you could argue for it “should have been the one”, and the photographers themselves just keep getting better. All of this makes the judging process even more difficult. Narrowing it down to just ten finalists and one winner among entries literally from around the world – it’s just very difficult. Especially since there are so many things to consider when looking at an image.
After a considerable amount of blood, sweat and tears, I am delighted to present to you this year’s ten finalists and our winner of the 2022 World Photo Walk Grand Prize.
REMARK: Once the winner is revealed below, I’ll list this year’s chef winner and some honorable mentions (images taken by photo walk chefs who didn’t win awards but still deserved some recognition).
Here are this year’s top 10 finalists (in no particular order):
SIMONAS PASKEVICIUS | Copenhagen, Denmark Photo Walk
NABILAH DAUD | Bukit Bintang, Photo Walk in Kuala Lumpur
FRED KRIEGER | Photo Walk in Naples, Florida, USA
KB COLLINS | Photo walk in Charlotte, North Carolina, USA
ROMELO JAMISOLA | Photo Walk in Doha, Qatar
KLIENNE ECO | Pitik sa Lawa ng Taal, Laurel, Batangas, Philippines Photo walk
ARIEL MEDINA | Prado photo walk, Montevideo, Uruguay
POOJA GOD WAR | Photo walk in Hyderabad, India
شمس رضوان (Shams Radwan) | Lake Burullus, photo walk in Egypt
DIMITRI KACZMAREK | Photo Walk in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA
…and now for the winner of the 2022 World Photo Walk Grand Prize:
BOBBIE MONTALES | Manila, Philippines Photo Walk
I fell in love with this image as soon as I saw it because it has it all. The light is amazing, but the eye-catching color draws you in, and then once you see the figure in the picture, it really takes it to the next level. It’s like when Jay Maisel talks about “Light, gesture and color” and how if your image has one, it has a chance of being something. If there are two, you have something special, and that picture definitely has light and color; some would say it has all three, but anyway – it’s a captivating picture – one I’d hang on the wall in my own house, and love it! Congratulations to Bobbie. Cheer!
The Walk Leader contest is still one of the hardest to judge
There are so many great applications from so many talented leaders around the world – it’s just really hard work. Last year was tough to judge, just like the year before, and the year before, and this year it’s just as tough again.
Although there was only one winner, I found some images to be so good that even though they didn’t win any awards, they still deserved recognition, so I’m posting my “Honourable Mentions” first, then we’ll reveal our winner.
I present our 10 honorable mentions from the walk leader contest (in no particular order):
MOHAMED ADEL | Lake Burullus, photo walk in Egypt
ZIA SURAREZ | Photo walk in the city of Barcelona, Spain
JOY TABILIN | Cagayan De Oro, photo walk in the Philippines
DIONYSUS PHOTOGRAPHY | Bay of Fundy, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Canada Photo Walk
ROMARINE KEAN | Kelowna Photo Walk, British Columbia, Canada
J. SCOTT KELLY | Vero Beach, Florida USA Photo Walk
NOHA HIMMAT | Gharbia Governorate, Egypt
MARC ANTOINE AGTAY | Photo walk in Dubai, United Arab Emirates
I like the mystery of this image, and I want to know the story. The colors, the lighting, the mood, it all works so well together. Truly an intriguing and masterfully crafted image. Well done!
Congratulations to all honorable mentions in the Photo Walk Leaders contest and our 2022 Leader winner, Marc Antoine Agtay.
Thank you to all our facilitators
It’s a lot of work (ask anyone who’s run one) and thankless work, so let me be the first to say ‘thank you’. We couldn’t do any of this without our volunteer walk leaders around the world, who do a great job creating the walks; working and competing for their walkers, judging the local contest from their walk and making it all happen locally, and that means a lot.
We couldn’t do this without Adobe
We owe a special thank you to our main sponsor, Adobe Systems, for their support of this year’s photo walk. Without their help and support, there would not have been a World Photo Walk. So you can imagine how grateful we are to the folks at Adobe, who also gave away amazing prizes for our contest winners.
Thanks also to our additional official sponsors: Think Tank Photo, Skylum, Rocky Nook, Platypod, On1 Software and B&H Photo — thank you for all your support this year and for providing such awesome prizes to our winners. We are very grateful.
Finally, thank you to all the talented photographers around the world
…who created such inspiring, creative and beautiful work, and a special thank you to those of you who contributed to the Springs of Hope Orphanage in Kenya — it means more than you know.
Have a fantastic day, everyone!
